ZEP publishes key report on CCS in EU energy-intensive industries

  • Date: 01/07/2013
  • Category: Technology, Capture, Projects & Communities - World, ZEP news

ZEP strongly backs the European Commission in its efforts to support EU industries – not least due to their important contribution to employment and welfare – yet underlines the need to ensure that this strategy is well-aligned with EU climate ambitions. According to the Commission’s 2011 Roadmap for moving to a competitive low carbon economy in 2050, emission reductions will be required to take place in all sectors, with CO2 emissions from the industrial sectors reduced by 34% to 40% by 2030, and by between 83% to 87% by 2050.The only available technology that can provide the required large-scale emission reductions in EU energy-intensive industries – such as steel, cement, refineries and chemicals – is CO2 Capture and Storage (CCS).
